These are beautiful flowers, for a beautiful Mother… so sorry to hear of your loss and hope the happy memories you have of her will help you through this difficult time.
Yes! Rivers of flowers. We were extremely lucky to be there during the prime blossoming time this year. Technically, we were late, but this year, so were the flowers! I decided not to try to control it, to just go when we wanted to go, and it turned out perfectly. I took nearly 300 pictures and exclaimed the whole way through the gardens. My husband said, “Are you going to take a picture of everything?” and I said, “Yes!” But I did start cutting it down to 2 or 3 pictures of everything instead of 10. The Keukenhof Gardens were the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I think flowers satisfy some basic need. Amsterdam has a lot of brown and gray, and I could see why the Netherlanders crave flowers and are master gardeners. The color feeds the soul.
Wow, you’ve lived a dream of mine! Were there a lot of tourists? I heard that the park can be mobbed. (I’m not one for big crowds!) Your photos are delightful! What a tender tribute to your mother, I know it has been nearly a year, but missing a person as important as your mother goes on for a lifetime. I lost my mom when I was 20 and it took a while to get over it. Blessings!
Oh, 20. Not fair. When that happens is a big influencing factor in a person’s life, I think. Thank you for your kind thoughts. I miss her so much.
The crowds weren’t bad. It all seemed to be local Netherlanders that day. Including a lot of elderly people who seemed to be there in a group from an assisted living place. They were all so quiet and deeply appreciative. Unfortunately, I was loud. I couldn’t stop exclaiming! We just totally lucked out. We were there too late for the bloom, but it was an unusually late winter and we just so happened to hit it at the peak. I’ve never seen anything as beautiful in my life. Living art.
This looks like an awesome place
