Can you make out what this is? It’s clear to me now but I couldn’t figure it out when I was standing close to it.

Weird how that works. This was my favorite piece. As you can see, the tagger was respectful and wrote on the guard rail instead of on the painting.
This was my second favorite. I think it was commissioned by the owner of the venue.

I like good street art that is commissioned, there is quite a bit up here around Brisbane and on noise barriers along the highways. The senseless tagging really gets my goat though.

Tagging gets everyone’s goat, I think. It is so ugly. I learned later that possibly the street art I photographed in Townsville was commissioned. If so, I think that is really great that the town chooses to use utilitarian surfaces as canvases.

Some commissioned works are great, at least the taggers usually leave them be. Some ugly utility buildings and water towers look delightful after a paint job.
