Author interview, Cynthia Harrison
Today, we have author Cynthia Harrison.
Cynthia, welcome! Your background shows that you are a real book lover. You teach English, including creative writing, have written a manual on writing, and have written hundreds of reviews, features and short fiction. Have you written in other genres besides romance?
Cynthia Harrison: Yes, I started as a poet and short story writer. I tried a few literary novels, a mystery, and a historical romance. They were practice books. Nothing felt right until I turned to contemporary love stories, novels of self-discovery, set in small towns.
NS: I know you also read outside the genre. What do you like about reading and writing romance?
CH: I like the parameters. I like working within a structure and twisting it for a bit of edge.
NS: Are you a pantser or a plotter?
CH: Pantser, to my dismay. I do begin plotting in earnest at about 30K words, but until then it’s whatever comes out of the fingertips that day.
NS: What is your favorite part about writing?
CH: I love losing myself in worlds that I can control, lol.
NS: What is the hardest part about writing?
CH: Finding the time and energy to keep going when I really want to read a good book.
NS: How long have you been writing?
CH: 45 years. Junior high star journalist.
NS: What are your dreams for your writing?
CH: I love this series idea, because I love writing series. But, if I can finish and publish this one I’m writing now, the book of my heart, I’ll be satisfied.

Out and about in Saratoga
This little fellow was making a lot of noise and doing a lot of damage at the Victorian Village in downtown Saratoga yesterday:
Here is the courtyard in the lovely Victorian Village mall in Saratoga:
Saratoga is known for its trees. (Sorry the horizon is tilted. Picasa has excellent horizon-adjustment software, but I didn’t like other things it was doing on my computer, so I uninstalled it. I don’t know how to easily straighten the horizon in GIMP. Speaking of which, by the way, all of today’s photos have GIMP’s color white balance and color enhance applied. The photos were pretty in their original state, but I thought the enhancements helped them “pop” for web display without changing the hues too much. (Although the second photo has more blue in the patio and railings than it should.)
Out and about in San Jose
Across from the very modern and fancy Santana Row is this old coffee shop. The sign is so faded you can barely see “Coffee.” Circa 1950s?
But here’s some important news. There are food trucks at Valley Fair mall! Here’s the mall entrance:
And right down there, in front of a restaurant (!) are a couple trucks:
I’m surprised the mall allows them to compete with their tenants.
I didn’t notice the strings of lights until I loaded these pictures this morning. Interesting how many things we don’t notice.
